Leslie Saul & Associates won the award for “Whole-Room Integration” with the following entry:

This little girl’s room has an “Alice in Wonderland” theme, with furniture and wall paintings that have over-scaled details and a cornice treatment that looks like it came right out of the Lewis Carroll storybook.  Leslie Saul sketched the curving cornice, showing the mismatched fabrics (pieced together), and the silver cord detail that swings from curve to curve.  The fabricator had to create a three dimensional curve, since the cornice has no flat surfaces. This was accomplished by building up from a plywood backer with foam and Dacron fill. The side panels bring another fabric into the charming mix.  Overall, the effect is strong and playful.
The armoire with over-sized knobs and an over-scaled angled shape share the “Alice in Wonderland,” slightly off-kilter design.  The large, brightly colored knobs are used on the dollhouse stand and dresser to carry the concept across the room.   Even the lounge chair and ottoman are covered in miss-matched fabrics that relate to the window cornices.
The window treatments make the theme come to life…and they all lived happily ever after.
